Lamar Community College

Lamar Community College is located in Lamar, in southeast Colorado. Established in 1937, it is a member of the Colorado Community College System. Located in rural Colorado, Lamar is the smallest community college in the state. However, it serves a very large geographic area, including the counties of Cheyenne, Baca, Kiowa and Prowers.

Lamar Community College has highly regarded equine and agriculture programs. The school is also home to the educational center of the Pierre Auger Cosmic Ray Observatory.

Many students attend Lamar in order to transfer general course credits to a major four-year college or university. Lamar also provides technical and professional certification in a variety of fields.

The school’s athletic teams are represented by the Runnin’ Lopes, which compete in Division I of the National Junior College Athletic Association. Women may participate in sports such as softball, basketball and volleyball, while men’s programs include basketball, baseball and golf. The school also hosts a co-educational rodeo team that competes in the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association.
